Mrs. Evelyn Burnette, 33, struggled from the burning wreckage and threw herself into the Fox River to douse her burning clothing. Hospital authorities said her quick action probably saved her life. Killed in the crash were the pilot, Van Ness L. Burnette, 38, a machinist of ZIon, Ill., Mrs. Burnette's mother, Mrs. Kristinthia Reistad, 56, of Zion, and Mrs. Dora Paul, 32, also of Zion. Police said that Burnette took off from Waukegan airport earlier and landed at the Elgin air field to pick up Mrs. Reistad. He apparently had motor trouble, witnesses said, right after taking off and spun into the ground near the Fox river.
