PEARCE IS DEAD Former Mayor, William W. Pearce who, in all served ten years as mayor of Waukegan passed away this morning at his home on Steele court and to his passing, Waukegan loses with out doubt, the most picturesque politician it ever had. His death came following a longed illness from cancer, caused from tobacco, which attacked the left side of his face a year ago, even while he was serving as mayor of Waukegan. A resident of Waukegan all his life, W.W. Pearce had served one term as mayor under commission form government and three terms under aldermanic form. But one man in Illinois is said to have served his city as mayor for four terms. Carter Harrison of Chicago, whose four terms however totaled but eight years, the aldermanic form two years. Dr. Pearce served a mayor in these years: 1897-98; 1899-00; 1903-04; 1915-19. He was born in Waukegan 58 years ago, the son of Waukegan's first druggist, W.S. Pearce.
