MRS. L.P. TODD DIES AT HOME IN DEERFIELD

Mother of Gazette Editor Succumbs After Brief Illness of Bronchitis

Member of Old Lake County Pioneer Family Prominent in Lake County


Mrs. Eugenia A. Todd,77 years old, widow of Lewis P. Todd and mother of Mrs. W. 
J. Smelzer of Chicago, Mrs. William H. Kist of Wilmette, James M. Woodman of 
Waukegan, John E. Woodman, Miss Josephine C. Woodman and Woodman Todd of 
Deerfield, died at her home in Deerfield Sunday afternoon following a brief  
illness with bronchitis.  

She was born March 14, 1844 on the farm of her father, John Galloway, a pioneer, 
one and one-half miles southeast of Deerfield and just south of county line.  

She was married to John E. Woodman April 22, 1865.  His death occurred in June, 
1881.  On Sept. 8, 1884, she was married to Lewis P. Todd, who died November 26, 
1907.

Mrs. Todd's mother was a sister of the late D.P. Millen, well known in Waukegan.  
The late Dr. Samuel Galloway of Libertyville, one of the county's prominent 
physicians in the early days, was a cousin of Mrs. Todd.  The Galloways and 
Millen families were among the early settler in Southern Lake County.

The funeral of Mrs. Todd probably will be held Thursday from the home in 
Deerfield and interment will place in the little cemetery where have been laid 
to rest her parents and other of the old pioneer families of that part of the 
county.
