"FARM RIDGE - In point of continuous residence William Wheatland is the oldest living settler in Farm Ridge, having resided there since 1836. Mr. Wheatland was born in Ohio about 1833 and has spent all but two or three years of his life in Farm Ridge. His father, Isaac Wheatland, drowned in 1846 while attempting to cross the Illinois River at Ottawa, and William grew to manhood under the fatherly protection of the late Squire Baldwin. In 1858 he was united in marriage with Mary Ann Casey, on what is still known as the Casey farm, and they went to live on a farm of their own. Mrs. Wheatland died in January, 1909. Their children are William, of Streator; Jule, the wife of Edward O'Connell, of Kaneville, Illinois; John of Amboy; Alice, who is now Mrs. Henry Mullen of Farm Ridge; Albert, Joseph and Kate, the wife of J.
