EAGER SUCCUMBS FRIDAY; RITES MONDAY Well Known Daughter of Pioneer Settlers Here; Injured a Month Ago Mrs. Ella M. Eager, 91, resident of this vicinity for nearly her entire life, died in the Woodward Memorial hospital in Sandwich Friday, February 11. The aged lady fell a month ago, fracturing her hip, which was the cause of her hospitalization. She had made her home nearly three years at the Pleasant View Lutheran home in Ottawa. Ella M. Heslet, the daughter of Captain S. M. And Mary Stewart Heslet, was born in Minnesota, where her father was temporarily engaged in the farm and mercantile business, on August 20, 1857. The family shortly thereafter, returned to Earlville, where the parents had been pioneer residents and the deceased grew to womanhood here. She was engaged in teaching a short time and in 1877 was united in marriage with John T. Eager, the son of parents who also were early residents of Earl. Twoo sons, Harry M. and Earl C. Eager were born to the couple. The family moved to Jamestown, N.D. in 1881, a new settlement, where the homesteaded and were instrumental in the establishment of the territory. They were residents of that state until 1901 when Mrs. Eager retruned to Earlville to make her permanent home. The deceased was the owner of farm land in the vicinity of Earlville which has been in the family or nearly 100 years. Mrs. Eager was well known in this community as an extemely civic and politically minded woman. She was an authority on pioneer and Civil War history, her father having served as an officer in the Civil War with the 104th Illinois Volunteers. She is survived by a son, Harry M. of Omaha, Nebraska, four grandchildren and 12 greatgrandchildren. Her husband preceded her in death in 1922 and her son, Earl C., died in 1938. Thornton Eager of Earville is a grandson of the deceased. Funeral servies were held in the Earlville Presbyterian church at 2 p.m. Monday with burial in Precinct cemetery. Pallbearers were J. W. Robinson, Maurice Jornlin, Thomas Larson, Harry Lee, L.G. Streed and A. E. Bader. The Rev. Kermit Prince officiated and Mrs. Bernard Aytherton accompanied by Mrs. John Carney, sang a hymn. Out of town residents here for the last rites besides her son were Lawrence Eager of Impeial, Calif., Mrs. Mildred Jones of Ferndale, Calif. and Miss Faydene Eager of Montair.
