Obituary for Elizabeth Hackett Shaver OBITUARY; Mrs. Elizabeth Shaver one of the earliest pioneers of Illinois passed from this life Wednesday afternoon July 16, 1902, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. W. F. Slewder, of Ottawa. Elizabeth Hackett Shaver was born in Wheeling, VA., Nov. 4th 1815, and died at Ottawa, as noted above, having reached the advanced age of 86 years, 8 months and 12 days. At the age of two years she moved, with her parents, from Virginia to Mt. Vernon, Ind., remaining there until 1834, when she came to LaSalle County, and has since been a resident here. On the 24th of October, 1835, she became the wife of Cyrus Shaver, a man widely known for his sterling qualities, but of whom she was bereft Feb. 21st 1883. She leaves to mourn her loss one son, George D., of Rutland township, and three daughters, Mrs. W. F. Slewder and Mrs. J. Adams Wilson of Ottawa, and Mrs. D. E. Fogarty, of Chicago. Mrs. Shaver has been a confirmed invalid for many years, but has borne her affliction with unfailing patience. She was a member of the M. E. Church for over thirty-three years. The funeral was held from the residence of W. F. Slewder, 702 Congress Street, East Ottawa, this afternoon at 2 O'clock, Rev. E. E. McKay, of the First M. E. Church officiating.
