Came to this county from Ohio in 1845; pre-empted 160 acres of land; in 1846 he began his home, starting in life with three horses. Here his children were born and raised, Frances, who became the wife of A. E. Beach,Esq.; Franklin, once mayor and city attorney of Ottawa, and Henry, a farmer in Nebraska. His first wife died in 1868, and in 1869 he married again a Miss Sprague, who was the mother of three children.
