The deceased was putting in props along the face of his room, his partner having gone home at half-past eleven. He was alone, and had put in props for a distance of fifteen feetr but at that point a slip was in the roof and he was in the act of putting a prop in and had struck it two blows with a sledge, when the prop sprung out from under the rock and suddenly a piece of it, weighing 3,000 pounds, fell and killed him. He was considered a careful miner. Left a widow and one child.
