The following article was taken from a LaSalle county paper, possibly the "Free Trader", dated Dec. 21, 1889. BOARD OF HEALTH. The youngest of the Madden children died Wednesday morning of diphtheria. The other case in the same family is improving, and hopes are entertained of her ultimate recovery. The Board of Health last Wednesday held a meeting to consider the condition of the family, and approved the acts of Health Officer Trainor in connection with the case. On Sunday last a nurse answered the advertisement in the Sunday Free Trader, and has been there all week rendering material aid to the health officer and the afflicted family. The statement made by the "evening irresponsible" that after the death of the child yesterday a woman from the house rushed down with the news to the health officer is denied by that officer, by whose order the house has been thoroughly quarantined, so that no one has passed in or out of the house without his knowledge; and every possible precaution has been taken; and thus far, to all appearances, with entire success. The case apparently comes from Marseilles, the oldest child having visited in that village when there was diphtheria there, just before being taken sick herself. Probably as an aggravation of the disease in this case, it must be said that there are no artesian wells in the neighborhood. ------------------------------------------------------------- UGENWEB NOTICE: These electronic pages may NOT be reproduced in any format for profit or presentation by other organiza- tions or persons.
