William H. Stead, Republican candidate for Attorney General, died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. S. S. Thompson in Marseilles, on Thursday of last week. The funeral took place Saturday afternoon at Marseilles. Mrs. Stead's maiden name was Sarah E. Reed. She was born in Easton, Washington county, New York, August 19, 1832. She was married to Henry Stead in 1851. The couple came to La Salle county, Ill., in 1856, and located on a farm in Grand Rapids township, south of Marseilles. With the exception of residing in Ottawa, while their children were being educated, Mr. and Mrs. Stead lived on a farm until about ten years ago, when they moved to Marseilles. Her husband, one daughter and three sons survive her. Mrs. Henry Stead was a woman of high character and led a life of usefulness. Additional Comments: Maiden name was "Read", not "Reed."
