LEIGHTY 1852-1922 Cancer Caused Death George H. Leighty Succumbs After Long and Painful Illness George H. Leighty died at his home on South Twelfth Street Friday morning at 8 o'clock following a lingering illness. Cancer was the cause of death. Funeral services were held at the Zion church Saturday afternoon at 3 o'clock, con- ducted by Rev C. B. Whiteside, assisted by Rev Fahnestock. Interment was made in the Zion Cemetery. Mr. Leighty was the son of Peter and Harriet Leighty and was born November 5th, 1852 about a half a mile north of Zion church and died October 13, 1922. He was married to Lucretia VanDerMark on February 16, 1881, and to them four son were born, one dying in infancy, Shortly after their marriage Mr. and Mrs. Leighty moved to a farm near the Broad Hollow School, where he continued to reside until a few years ago when he purchased property in Lawrenceville and moved there. His wife died June 11, 1889, and two years later he was married to Mary Snyder, daughter of Philip Snyder. A son and daughter were born to them, both of whom survive with there wives and mother. Mr. Leighty united with the Zion M E church in early manhood and later transferred his membership to the Church at Billett. He was active in church and Sunday school work for many years and after removing to Lawrenceville again transferred his membership to the M E church there. At the time of death he was 69 years, 11 months and 5 days old and is survived by his wife and five children, Clyde E. and Wilbur R. of Washington, D. C., Frank R. and Wayne S. Leighty both of Denison Township, and Agnes at home. Three brothers and one sister also survive him, Lewis, Theodore, Elliott and Emeline, all of this County.
