Orrin M Lewis, aged 59 years, a resident of Lee Center, died at his home Wednesday afternoon at 2:00 of cancer of the face. The cancer was the result of an injury received four years ago in stopping a runaway. (!) Mr. Lewis was born in Amboy/China township in 1847 and has lived in this county continuously, with the exception of five years. In 1855 he removed with his father to St Croix Co. WI where he resided until 1860, when he returned to Lee Co and resided for one year. He was married in 1871 to Miss Luella Matterson a native of WI who died in March 1881. Some years later he was married to Miss Louise Heldman. He has made his home in Lee Center for the past nine or ten years. He was a member and prominent worker in the United Brethren church at Amboy was a trustee in the church and at one time superintendent of the Sunday school. He is survived by his wide, Louise Heldman-Lewis, daughter of Wm. Heldman, formerly of Dixon, three sons, Theron a United Brethern preacher in Knox county, near Galesburg; Harry, a farmer in Amboy township; Frank, and one daughter, Lillian, who live at home. Also three brothers; Ira W. Lewis of Dixon, Irvin Lewis, who lives North of Dixon and Perry Lewis of Barron Co. WI.
