E. Smith & Co.’s mine at Cornell, Livingston county. Deceased was employed by the above company to take the water out of an old mine, and as the water was lowered in the shaft the pump had to lowered also. In lowering the pump the steam pipe had to be disconnected on top; when in the act of lowering the pump the elbow caught on the timbers and disconnected a short length of pipe, which fell down the shaft about eighty feet, striking Decker on the head, crushing his skull. He was unconscious for fifteen hours, and died without recovering consciousness. He leaves a widow and five children, two of whom are dependent.
