Obituary of Mary Ann Wheatland CHURCH, Livingston County, Illinois This file was contributed for use in the USGenWeb Archives by: DeHoog Mary Ann Wheatland Church Obituary - Pontiac Daily Leader, January 18, 1918, Friday "Mrs. Mary Ann Church, widow of the late Frederick J. Church and for many years residing each of this city, died at 10 o'clock this morning at the h ouse of Mr. and Mrs. James Harris, 31 East North Street, death being due to the infirmities of old age, she being 81 years old last August. Mrs. Church had been bedfast for the past six weeks. The funeral will be held from the First Baptist church Sunday afternoon, January 20, Rev. E. Benden, the pastor, conducting the services. Burial will be in the south side cemetery. Mary Ann Wheatland was born at Piqua, Ohio, August 22, 1836, being a daughter of Isaac and Ann Wheatland, remaining at Piqua but three months following her birth, when she moved to Grand Ridge, La Salle County, with her parents. At the age of eight years she was left an orphan. Gaining for herself an excellent education through the county schools, she spent two years previous to her marriage in teaching school. She was united in marriage to Frederick J. Church at Granville, Ill., December 3, 1855. Shortly after their marriage they removed to Cayuga and later to a farm three miles east of this=20= city, which farm has been Mrs. Church's home until a few months ago, when she came to this city to make her home with her daughter Mrs. Harris. Mrs. Church is survived by four daughters and one son, viz: Mrs. Phoebe Bennett, Loanoke, Ark.; Frank of this city; Mrs. Sarah Harris of this city; Mrs. Alberta Herb, of Emington, and Mrs Elizabeth Bashure of Odell. She is also survived by two brothers and a sister, viz: William Wheatland and Mrs. Helen Pearson, of Streator, and George Wheatland of Arkansas. Mrs. Church's parents died at Grand Ridge, Ill., when she was eight years old. A daughter, Miss Elsie, died in 1910; another, Mrs Emma Bennett of Saunemin, died in 1911, and a son, William H. Church, died in 1916.
