Stephenson, Jr., - Historian, Bock Family Association Hilda Ricka Bock and Walter Adam Bock were siblings. Our father, [John} Henry Bock, was born near Lawndale ([Logan County Illinois] on feb 27, 1878, the son of Adam and Louisa Wilmert Bock. In 1891, his parents and family moved to the Bock farm 4 miles north of Beason [Logan County Illinois]. On March 9, 1904, he married Minnie Awe at her home near Lawndale, Ill. She was born the daughter of Frederick and Sophia Awe in Mechlenburg, Germany on April 27, 1875 and came to Lincoln with her family at the age of 8 years. They moved to the present Bock farm at that time and continued to live there all their lifetime. Mother died in 1939 and Father in 1961. Mother had one sister, Mrs. William (Bertha) Gimbel of Lincoln, and one brother, Frank Awe, of Mt. Pulaski. They were the parents of six children who all attended Mt. Zion rural school and all graduated from Beason High School. Henry F. A. of Lincoln married Elda Meinershagen. She died in 1971. William, Lincoln, married Emma Otte. Carl, Lincoln, married Lilliam Furman. Adam, Lincoln, married Miriam Otte. Walter and Hilda still live on the Bock family farm near Beason. All the family are farmers and were for several generations back in Germany. We have seen a lot of changes in farming in our lifetime. From using horses and mules to plow and plant the crops, using binders and threshing machines to separate the grain from the straw and large straw stacks used as shelter for livestock, and shucking corn by hand, a change has taken place to using large tractors, plows, field cultivators, and combines. We raised hogs, cattle, and chickens, and had our own meat, milk, butter, and eggs. Now it is all big business or none. We both belong to St. John United Church of Christ and have been active members of the church organizations. Hilda belongs to the Charity Guild and Christian Seekers, Women's organizations of the church, and she was a former member of Home Bureau now known as Home Extension. Walter was a Sunday School teacher for many years and belongs to the men's Brotherhood. He has served on the Church Council numerous times. He served on the Beason Grade School Board and the Farm Bureau Board, and has been an active member of the Logan County Toastmaster's Club.
