Stephenson, Jr., - Historian, Bock Family Association William J. Fulcher, who has won a gratifying measure of success in his operations as an agriculturist, is now the owner of two hundred and eighty- eight acres of rich and arable land in Hurlbut township. His birth occurred in Waverly, Ohio, on the 11th of August, 1870, his parents being Herman and Louise (Koono) Fulcher, both of whom are natives of Germany. Unto them were born four sons and six daughters, as follows: Mrs. Mollie Gompf, who now makes her home in Petersburg, Indiana; William J. of this review; Mrs. Lena Lucas, a resident of Tulsa, Oklahoma; Mrs. Tillie Helfenbein; John; Mrs. Anna Mitchell; Mrs. Ida Holman; George; Mrs. Lulu Stonecypher; and Henry. The last seven named all live in Petersburg, Indiana. William J. Fulcher spent the first eighteen years of his life in the place of his nativity and then removed to Petersburg, Indiana, where he made his home until 1896. In that year he took up his abode on a farm three miles southwest of Elkhart and has there resided continuously since, being today in possession of two hundred and eighty-eight acres of highly improved and valuable land in Hurlbut township. The well tilled fields annually yield golden harvests in return for the care and labor which he bestows upon them and he is entitled to recognition among the substantial and enterprising citizens of the community. In his beautiful home are found all modern conveniences and because of the prosperity which has rewarded his labors he is now in a position to enjoy many of the comforts and luxuries of life. On the 16th of September, 1896, Mr. Fulcher was united in marriage to Miss Elizabeth Bock, a daughter of Abraham and Julia (Mohr) Bock. The father was born on the 1st of December, 1832, while the mother’s birth occurred on the 1st of July of the same year. They emigrated from Germany to the United States in 1857 and were married in Ohio on the 8th of January of the following year. In 1862 they came to Elkhart, Illinois, locating on the homestead which is now in the possession of our subject. Abraham Bock was in limited financial circumstances at the time of his arrival and underwent all the hardships and privations of pioneer life in and effort to earn a livelihood here. A man of untiring industry and indefatigable energy, he prospered as the years passed by and is now the owner of one thousand acres of fine land in Logan county. He is a consistent and devoted member of the German Lutheran church, in the faith of which his wife passed away on the 5th of September, 1884. They had a family of four sons and two daughters, namely: Fred, living in Portland, Oregon; Louis, William and George, all of whom are deceased; Mrs. Fulcher; and Mrs. Ella Gellion, who is a resident of Elkhart. Mr. and Mrs. Fulcher are the parents of one son and one daughter: Abraham, whose birth occurred on the 4th of December, 1898; and Ella whose natal day was February 28, 1903. Mr. Fulcher is a democrat in his political views but not offensively partisan. His fraternal relations are with Kenwood Lodge, No. 405, K. P., at Elkhart, and both he and his wife belong to Court of Honor, No. 508, at that place. They are also valued members of the Methodist Episcopal church in Elkhart and that its teachings form the guiding influence of their lives is indicated in the esteem and regard which is accorded them by an extensive circle of friends and acquaintances.
