Stephenson, Jr., - Historian, Bock Family Association On file in the Lincoln Public Library The Lincoln Courier-Herald, Lincoln, Illinois Wednesday August 30, 1916 pg 2 George Apel, Sr. George Apel, a prominent farmer, well known throughout Logan county, died at 12:50 p. m. o'clock. Deceased had been afflicted with cancer for some time and death was the only freedom from his suffering. George Apel was born in Gelersdorff by Braefenthal Thur, Germany, April 29, 1850, being 66 years and 4 months old the day of his demise. He had been in America for 49 years, moving near Atlanta shortly after coming to this country. March 13, 1875 he married Miss Elizabeth Bock of Springfield. To their union were born the following children: Mrs. Mary Warrick, Girard, Ill.; Mrs. Carrie Read of Elkhart; Charles Apel, of Broadwell; George Apel, Jr., of Lincoln; Mrs. Louise Schaefer of Beason; Albert and Lillie at home, and Henry and Minnie, deceased. Besides these there are a brother and sister in Germany. Mrs. Margaret Miller and Anton Apel of Gelersdorff by Graefenthal Thur, Germany. Funeral services will be held at 12 Thursday at the home near Atlanta, and at 1:30 at the St. John's Evangelical church of Lincoln, of which deceased was a life-long member. Rev. Charles Hoffman will officiate. Burial will be in Union cemetery, Lincoln.
