Subject: William Sylvester Dady, resident of Lincoln, Logan Co., IL. [death notice, published Monday, March 7, 1822] Yesterday evening at his home in the Fourth Ward at 4:18 o'clock, William S. Dady, aged about 70 years, passed quietly away. He had been suffering for some time from what seemed to be a complication of diseases. He was born in Monroe County, N. Y. in 1821 and came to this county in 1853 making him a resident of this place for nearly forty years. He leaves four children. the funeral was held this afternoon at 2 o'clock from the P.M.E. Church and was conducted by Rev. Turner. [post-funeral notice] William S. Dady was born in Monroe County New York on August 19, 1822 to Spenser and Desdamona Dady. He died on Sunday evening, March 6, 1892, at 4:18 p.m. at his home in the fourth ward of Lincoln, Illinois, at the age of 69 years, 7 months, and 13 days. He had suffered for some time from what seemed to be a complication of diseases. William's mother died when he was a young age and his father moved from Monroe County eventually settling in Venango County, Pennsylvania where he met and married Martha Hood. Prior to 1840, William moved to Trumbull County, Ohio to live with his uncle Lester Dady and his family. On December 29, 1842, William married Ameda Case and to this union six children were born the oldest being Mary Jane Dady, who was named after William's sister, who died in 1843. William moved his family westward settling for a while in Marion, Ohio and then on to Lincoln, Logan County, Illinois. William moved his family again in the middle 1850's to Mason County, Illinois where his twin sons were born. By 1860, William had returned his family to Lincoln, Illinois where he served on the police force. After the death of Ameda (Case) Dady in 1870, William married Sarah Skelly in 1876 and one son was born to the couple. William is survived by his wife, Sarah, five sons William, Charles Sylvester, Spencer, Gilbert, and Melvin; two daughters, Mary Jane and Clarissa; his step- mother, Margaret Dady; one step-brother; and numerous grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Ameda; three brothers and two sisters; and eight step-brothers and sisters. Funeral services were held from the Methodist Protestant Church in Lincoln, Illinois with the Reverend Turner officiating. Burial was in the Union Cemetery in Lincoln, Illinois.
