He had fired two shots before the one that killed him, and had returned and lit the third one, which was on the far side of the room and a considerable distance from the road leading to the entry, and in going out he got bewildered in the smoke and did not get far enough away to avoid being struck by flying coal, killing him instantly. He was of Welsh birth, and left a widow and three children dependent. He resided in Lincoln.
