Stephenson, Jr. Area Death ‘Barney’ Gosda Atlanta – Vernon C. “Barney” Gosda, 78, of Atlanta died at 12:35 a.m. Friday April 28, 2006, at Morton Terrace Care Center in Morton. Mr. Gosda was a sexton for the Atlanta Cemetery for many years. A lifelong Atlanta resident, he was a member of Atlanta Masonic Lodge and Atlanta American Legion Gresham-Crutchley Post 341. Mr. Gosda was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War. He was born March 19, 1928, in Atlanta, the son of William and Lillian Gimbel Gosda. He married Quita J. Upton on Oct. 2, 1952, in Bisbee, Ariz. She died Feb. 27, 1998. Survivors include four sisters, Rose Singley of Topeka, Dorothy Klockenga of Decatur, Lillian Knecht of DeKalb and Ruth Schmidt of Woodstock; one brother, Ralph Gosda of Arcadia, Fla. One son, six brothers and one sister preceded him in death. Mr. Gosda’s graveside service will be at 11 a.m. Monday with Andy Glass officiating and military rites by Atlanta American Legion.
