Crook, vfcrook @trellis.net November 1998 State of Illinois} County of Macon } On this the nineteenth day of December AD 1850 personally appeared before me, a Justice of the peace within and for the County and State aforesaid William Forin aged Fifty Eight years a resident of Macon County in the State of Illinois who being duly sworn according to Law, declairs, that he is the identical William Forin, who was a prvate in the company commanded by Captain Daniel Huffman in the 4th of Virginia Militia commanded by Colonel McDowell in the war with Great Britian declaired by the United States on the 18th day of June 1812 ----- That he volunteered at Lexington, Rockbridge County Virginia on or about the 4th day of July AD 1813, for the term of six months and continued in actual service in said war for the term of six months and was honorably discharged at place call The Peach Orcard, near Norfolk Va on or about the 11th of January 1814 as will appear by the Muster Rolls of said Company ------------- And he further declairs, that he received his regular certificate of discharge, and has lost the same, -- that he was in the courc of said service transfered from the command of Captain Huffman to Captain Gilkison, and afterward to the command of Captain Danil Mathews, in said Regiment, by whom he received his discharge and that that said Regiment was Commanded by Colonel Kuntz at said discharge, He also declairs that his name was sometimes called William Furin and sometimes William Forehand, and that it may be possible that his name so appears on the said Muster Rolls, and that he make these dates from his best recollection. He makes this declaration for the purpose of obtaining the bounty Land to which he may be entitled under the act granting bounty Land to certain officers and soldiers who have been engaged in the Military service of the united States, passed September 28 1850. his William X Forin mark Witness Wm Martin [?] Sworn to and subscribed before me the day and year above written. And I hereby certify that I believe the said William Forin to be the identical man who served as aforesaid and that he is of the age above stated. Wm. Oglesby, Clerk of the County Court of said County, do hereby certify that Wm Prather Esq., whose name appears to the foregoing Certificate is, and was at the time of signing the same an acting Justice of the Peace of said county, duly commifsioned and sworn, and as such, full faith and credit are due all of his official acts. Herewith please find, correspondence from department, in relation to William Forins application for Bounty land Warrant for services in War with great Britain (1813) his application was forwarded to department on 19 Decr 1850, for six months services, the difficulty in training his term of services from the Rolls was in consequence of his having been transfered to another company, at Norfolk. The old man is really entitled to Eighty acres, but requested by letter of the 1 October 1851 that for forty acre Warrant might be forwarded to him. Sice that time he has had no reply from the department. I now send this communication from the Department ans ask that the Forty acre Warrant may be forwarded without delay to addresf of William Prather Decatur Illinois, if such has not been done if so it never came to hand.
