County Superintendent's Certificate Original in the Hopwood Papers, Milligan College, Carter County, TN First Grade Decatur, Macon County, Illinois August 19th, 1870 The undersigned, having examined Josephus Hopwood in Orthography, Reading in English, Penmanship, Arithmetic, English Grammar, Modern Geography and the History of the United States, and being satisfied that he is of good moral character, hereby certifies that his qualifications in the above branches are such as entitle him to this certificate, being of the First Grade, and valid in the County for Two years from the date hereof, renewable at the option of the County Superintendent for his endorsement thereon.
