All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/il/ilfiles.htm ************************************************ File contributed for use in USGenWeb Archives by: jean conover blaney thomas_blaney@comcast.net December 21, 2012, 6:06 pm Decatur Daily Review (Decatur, IL), 9 Aug 1886 August 9, 1886 The Country Thieves Saturday evening Edward CLARK a dn Wiliam SMITH, the two worthless whom Sheriff FOSTER arrested on the evening of August 3d, with a lot of stolen goods in their possession, had a preliminary hearing before Justice CURTIS, and each defendeants was held to await the action of the grand jury under four separate charges of burglary and larceny. It appeared that the pair had broken into farm houses east of the city, while the people were in town to see the Barnaum show. The places burglarized were the homes of William FOOSE, Frank BOWMAN, T. V. DISPAIN, Alfred BELL, Mr. MULLINIX, and J. W. MOORE, the latter identifieying his stolen goods after the trial. The thieves had watches, currency and trinkets generally that were promplty identified by the framers names. Bail was fixed at $800 each, $200 on each charge. State's Attorney VAIL appeared for the People, and Attorny Fred CLARK for the burglars.
