He was born Jan 10, 1874, in Mount Zion, a son of Robert A and Katherine Kemper Knowles. He had lived all his life in Decatur and the vicinity. He was affiliated with the Christian Church. Mr. Knowles was last employed by Union Iron Works and formerly worked for the Wabash Railroad. He was a longshoreman with the Great Lakes Marine Service during the Spanish-American War years and was later in birdge construction work. Five brothers and three sisters preceded him in death. Services will be at 3 p.m. Monday in the Monson Funeral Home where friends may call after 2:30 p.m. Sunday. Burial will be in Salem Cemetery.
