He was married 20 Sep 1826 in Adair County KY to Jane POWELL, daughter of ELIAS POWELL and ELIZABETH DAY, was born 08 Nov 1807 in Adair County KY, and died 18 Dec 1891 in Girard Macoupin County IL. .Jane married second to John Washington BAINBRIDGE, born 18 Feb 1796, died on way to Calif in the Gold Rush of 1849. She married third to Lewis M BAILEY, born ?, died 27 Aug 1856. Notes for James S FLETCHER: James S FLETCHER was the first Fletcher to arrive in Macoupin County, Illinois. He came with his wife Jane and two daughters, Amanda and Melinda. They came from Adair County, Kentucky and arrived in Morgan County and Macoupin County, Illinois by 1829. They are on the 1830 census for Morgan County, Illinois. James S. Fletcher was the first person to be buried in Panther Creek Cemetery, near Scottville Macoupin Co Illinois. Started the CENTRAL ILLINOIS DEMOCRAT and was editor for some time. vii. John Quincy FLETCHER, born 14 Aug 1841 in Scottville Macoupin Co IL, died 14 Apr 1928, m. Alice C "Nellie" HUNTER, born 12 May 1848, died 13 Mar 1935, no children. John Quincy married two other times. Notes for JOHN QUINCY FLETCHER: Was responsible for securing the Post Office for Modesto, Il.as he signed the document on Sept. 17th 1898. As stated the name of the most prominent river near it is the Illinois. The name of the nearest creek is the Panther Creek. This Office is 40 miles from said river, on the East side of it, and is 5 miles from said nearest creek, on the East side of it. He then served as Postmaster.
