A “First Family” of Macoupin County IL.

JOEL YORK (son of James and Nancy WHITTAKER YORK) was born 1784 in Surrey 
County North Carolina,and died 1847 in Carlinville Macoupin County IL. He married 
TALITHA JACKSON July 02, 1810 in Williamson County TN, daughter of Charity BOYD. 
TALITHA JACKSON YORK was born about 1785 in NC and died 1847 in Carlinville 
Macoupin County IL.

Notes:

Joel's grandfather James YORK emigrated from England to Surry County in 1730.

Joel's father James YORK was born 1750-1760 in Surry County NC.

Joel's mother Nancy WHITTAKER YORK born on the 17th, 1750-1760 in Prince George 
Maryland.

Children of Joel YORK and Talitha JACKSON are:

i. JAMES W YORK, born August 28, 1813 in Maury County TN; died June 24, 1895 in 
Maury County TN. He married (1) Mary A KAPLINGER February 1838. Mary was born in 
Washington County TN and died November 24, 1873 in Honey Point Township Macoupin 
County IL. 3 children. He married (2) Hester HAMILTON January 1875.

vi. JOSEPH B YORK, born 1820 in Maury County TN; died in Macoupin Co IL. He married 
Mary F  LEWIS March 11, 1845 in Carlinville Macoupin County IL. Mary was born 1827 in 
KY. 10 children.

ii. WESLEY YORK, born Abt 1822 in Maury County TN.

iii. REBECCA YORK, born Abt 1824 in Maury County TN.

iv. WILLIAM C YORK, born February 01, 1828 in Bedford County TN; died September 04, 
1873. He married Mary.

v. NIMROD K YORK, born 1835 in Morgan County IL; died 1902 in Lawton Cherokee Co 
KS. He married (1) Sarah C WALLACE. Sarah was born in Bracken County KY. She died 
August 1877 in Lawton Cherokee County KS. 6 children. He married (2) Elizia A 
COLCLASURE.
