Bowker, 87, of Medora died at 4 p.m. Friday, July 15, 1988, at Carlinville Area Hospital. Born in Mount Pulaski Sept. 5, 1900, daughter of Luke and Viola (Belle) Owens, she married Truman D. Bowker Aug. 9, 1915, in Hannibal, Mo., and he died Feb. 23, 1975. Surviving are four daughters, Viola Kirchner of Greenfield, Doris Pruitt of Chesterfield, and Lela Harding and Anna Mae Bowker of Medora; five sons, Lloyd Bowker of Medora, James Bowker of Alton, Gene Bowker of Godfrey, Milford Bowker of Memphis, Tenn., and William Bowker of Edenburgh, Ind.; 35 grandchildren; 77 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren. Mrs. Bowker was preceded in death by three sons, Walter, Elmer and Claude Bowker, a daughter Ida Belle Coleman, four grandchildren, eight brothers, and five sisters. She was a member of Mount Pleasant Baptist Church of Medora, where she served as Sunday School teacher for 35 years. Visitation was Sunday at Targhetta Funeral Home in Medora. Funeral services were at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Mount Pleasant Baptist Church in Medora, with the Rev. William Loafman and the Rev. Steven Mayes officiating. Burial was in Medora Cemetery. Memorial gifts were directed to Mount Pleasant Baptist Church.
