He was a truck driver, school bus driver, hod carrier, monument worker, railroad worker, filling station attendant and worked for the telephone company. Born Oct. 7, 1906, near Woodburn, he was the son of the late James Jefferson and Sarah Ann (ELLIS) Davis. He married the former Tiny Lucille HOWERTON on Nov. 22, 1945. She died on Nov. 13, 1974. Surviving are a son, Earl Gene DAVIS of Woodburn; two granddaughters, Valery HEFLIN of Bunker Hill and Monica DAVIS of South Roxana; two grandsons, Timothy DAVIS of Shipman; and Earl C. "Butch" DAVIS II of Bunker Hill; five great-grandchildren, Joel, Jewelia and Autumn DAVIS, all of Shipman; and Justin and Megan HEFLIN of Bunker Hill; and a sister, Bessie SANNER of Decatur. Preceding him in death were three sisters, Nellie BULLMAN, Mary WOOD and Nettie LAWRENCE; and five brothers, Roy, Clarence, Walter, Raymond, and Harvey DAVIS. Visitation will be from 4 to 9 p.m. today at Jocoby-Wise Funeral Home in Bunker Hill, where services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday. The Rev. Vernon McGee will officiate. Burial will be in Woodburn Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the family in care of the funeral home.
