Obituary: GRAND OLD MAN BURIED TODAY. John Faulstich Passes Away At
His Home Last Tuesday .John Faulstich passed away at his home in this city at 8 a.m.,
Tuesday, March 10, 1914, aged 83 years, after suffering for a week from the effects
of a paralytic stroke. His last illness and death came as a severe shock to his children,
for just a week previous to his death he was found able to follow his daily routine of
life in the usual manner. The paralytic stroke overcame him without a moment of 
warning, while he was walking in the yard. When the blindness came upon him he
was prevented from falling to the ground by holding to a post when he gave a warning
of his illness and was tenderly carried to the house by relatives where he gradually
became very much worse until the call of death relieved him from his suffering.
After the death of Mrs. Faulstich, which occurred about 3 years ago, Mr. Faulstich
has continued to reside in the old Faulstich home place and in order that his wishes
might be gratified, his daughter and her husband, former city clerk Charles F. Kruse
and wife, stored a portion of their furniture and left their pleasant home in the east
part of the city to reside with him in the old home place, which has been for many
years. The devotion of this daughter and her family to her father was a beautiful
example of love well repaid. John Faulstich was born in Londorf Kries, Krienburg,
Germany on March 15, 1831. In September, 1860, he was united in marriage to
Miss Helena Conrad. In 1868 they emigrated to America and located at Staunton,
Ill., where the couple resided until their deaths. For many years Mr. Faulstich was
identified in a prominent manner with the business interests of Staunton. In the year
1906 he retired from business, leaving it in the hands of his sons. The store has
continued and at the present time is under the management of his two sons, Messrs.
George and Charles Faulstich. To Mr. and Mrs. Faulstich were born ten children,
six sons and four daughters, eight of whom survive. Mr. Faulstich leaves to mourn
his passing the following children: William, a minister of the Lutheran Church in
Whittemore, IA; Catherine, the wife of Rev. Leimer of Beemer, Neb., Louis, of
St. Louis, Elizabeth, wife of A. Kiesling of St. Louis, Henry, George, Charles and
Tina, wife of C. F. Kruse of Staunton. The wife, also two children are deceased,
namely John, who resided in Danville and Margaret. Mr. Faulstich held the office
of Elder in the Zion Lutheran Church in this city for nearly 30 years and his death
records the passing away of another one of the oldest and most devoted citizens
and members of the church. He was dearly loved by his children who strove to make
his last days pleasant ones. He was also highly esteemed throughout the city and there
are many who are grieved to learn of his death. The funeral services will be held
this afternoon at Zion Lutheran Church at 2:30 p.m., Rev. J. G. F. Kleinhans officiating.
