"Cappy" Name of Newspaper: Girard Gazette Date of Obituary: June 1965 Obituary: Edgar F." Cappy" GATES, 81, of Springfield, passed away at 12:50 PM, Wednesday, June 9, 1965, at Memorial Hospital, Springfield, Ill. The decedent was born February 28, 1884 in Girard, the son of the late Frank W. and Serilda Gibson GATES. He served in World War I, as a captain. He was an interested and active member of the American Legion as long as his health permitted. He was a skilled workman and a member of the International Brotherhood of Carpenters, No 16, of Springfield. He was a devoted member of the Brethren. He was preceded in death by his wife, the former Maude Harrison. He was also preceded in death by two brothers and four sisters. The decedent is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Serilda (James) Mackay, Springfield; two sons, Frank, Springfield; John H., Los Angeles, California, and one sister, Mrs. Lois TROVER of Carlinville. The body was removed to the Berry Funeral Home where funeral services were conducted Saturday at 1 PM. Interment was in Pleasant Hill Cemetery.
