Mary Etta Roach was born in Girard, Ill., November 12, 1856 and died July 7, 1930 at the home of her daughter Ethel, Mrs. Marion Riffey, age 73 years, 8 months and 25 days. August 8, 1877 she was united in marriage to Henry Lemons of Girard and to this union eight children were born. One child Roscoe Harrison preceded her in death, September 22, 1914, and her husband December 22, 1919. The children now living are: Ethel, Mrs. Marion Riffey, Girard; John Roach Lemons of Colorado Springs, Col.; Henry McCoy Lemons, Girard; Calvin Carroll Lemons, Cheyenne, Wyoming; Mattie Eveline, Mrs. Willis Carroll of Springfield, Mo.; Erma Adelia, Mrs. Ernest F. Stewart of Girard and Fae Lemons, Mrs. Otto Brubaker, Girard. She also leaves one brother J. C. Roach of Girard and eleven grandchildren and one great grandchild. Mrs. Lemons spent her entire life in this community. She was converted early in life and united with the Baptist church on profession of faith September 3, 1905. After the death of her husband she made her home with the children, who have done every thing possible for her comfort. Funeral services for Mrs. Mary Lemons were held from the First Baptist church in Girard, Illinois, at 3:00 o'clock, Wednesday afternoon, July 9, conducted by the Rev. H. L. Sellers, pastor of the church of the Brethren assisted by the Rev. William Dickman, pastor of the Baptist church and Rev. William England. Interment was made in the Girard cemetery. The pallbearers were: Theo Anspaugh, Simon Miller, Jess Wallace, Oren Smith, John Shutt and Frank Jennings. The flowerbearers were: Mrs. Theo Anspaugh, Della Price, Bell Gilpin, Sarah Owens, Mrs. John Shutt, Maine Eddle, Martha Riffey. The following from out of town attended the funeral: Mr. and Mrs. H. M. Hart, Mrs. Gillespie and daughter; Mrs. Anna Roach, Auburn; Mr. and Mrs. Harry Sims and Mrs. and Mrs. Edgar Riffey, Raymond; Mrs. Daisy Minton, Mrs. S. B. Gore, Carlinville; Mr. and Mrs. Howard Riffey of St. Louis.
