He was born in Hessedarmstadt Germany Feb. 26 1821. He came to America in 1945 and settled near Albany New York. The same year he was united in marriage to Anna C. About the year 1850 he united with the German Methodist Church at Alton. He was one of the Charter members and assisted in building the first German Methodist Church in Alton. He was obliged to borrow the money to pay his subscription. In a histroy of the Fosterburg church we find the following "One of the oldest members is Valentine Miller who is yet among us. Since 1850 he has served the church faithfully as Sunday school superintendant, trustee and class leader." This indicates his interest in the church.
