The bull finally was driven off with a pitchfork by Mr. Rowan. Mr. Corcoran, who was 89 years of age, had been living a life of retirement on Mr. Rowan's farm, and he started to take a walk over the fields. He opened the gate into the pasture where the bull is kept, intending to walk across it. The moment he stepped within the field the animal charged him fiercely. Mr. Corcoran threw up his hands in defense, but one of the animal's horns pierced his brain.
