A. Lynn Dies Alton Lawyer Expired at His Home Yesterday Death Follows an Illness of More Than Year James A. Lynn, an Alton lawyer, former chief of police of that city, at one time assistant state’s attorney and master in chancery of the Alton city court at the time of his death, passed away yesterday at 11:30 o’clock at his home, 523 East Seventh street after an illness of more than a year. For the past year he has been confined to his home and carried on a great deal of his work at home until a few weeks ago. Diabetes had been his trouble for more than a year. Complications developed and he had an attack of gangrene which required a surgical operation and one foot was removed nearly a year ago. The operation failed to bring relief. For the past several weeks he realized that the end was approaching and became resigned to his fate. He has been failing rapidly since last Sunday. Mr. Lynn was born at Lebanon, IL on October 30, 1864 and would have been 60 years old had he survived until Thursday of next week. His parents were Mr. and Mrs. William Lynn. He received his education at Lebanon and had practiced law since 1892. He located at Alton thirty years ago. Some years ago Mr. Lynn was a United States deputy marshal and was stationed in Oklahoma. In assisting in an arrest some years ago he was severely shot in one of his shoulders. The most important public service of Mr. Lynn was that of chief of police of Alton from 1912 to 1916. He had also built up a large law practice at Alton. He was a member of the American Yeoman and of the Episcopal church. His widow was formerly Mss Clementeen Whiting of Shipman to whom he was married twenty-eight years ago. He has two daughters, Mrs. Anna Reinichen and Miss Virginia Lynn, both of Alton. There are three brothers, William Lynn of Weystown, IL and Joseph and John Lynn of Lebanon.
