BRYAN, William Jennings, 1860-1925, b. Salem, Ill. Member of the U.S. House of Representatives. He was the Democratic nominee for President three times: in 1896 and 1900 he lost to McKinley, and in 1908, he lost to Taft. He was Secretary of State (1913-15) under Woodrow Wilson. His father was Silas BRYAN, attorney and circuit judge, and mother was Maria E. JENNINGS.
