Short O'Dell Funeral services for Mrs. Sarah E. O'Dell, who passed away Tuesday, Jan. 17, at 10 p.m. at Wutzler's Nursing Home, Odin, were held at Linton funeral home, Kinmundy, Friday, with Rev. Albert Perry, Church of God minister, officiating. Interment was in the McFadden cemetery, near Yale, Ill., beside her husband and son, Elza, who died in infancy. Pallbearers were six of her grandsons, Francis O'Dell of Centralia, Lawrence O'Dell of Odin, Junior Greene of Granite City, Donald Smith of Carterville, Carl Knapp of Calument City and Earl Petrea of Salem. Sarah Evaline, daughter of Philip and Sarah Short, was born in Jasper county, Ill, Aug. 16, 1872. She passed away Jan. 17, 1961, age 88 years, 5 months and 1 day. She had been in failing health for several years. On Aug. 11, 1890, she was united in marriage to William O'Dell at Newton, Ill. To this union was born 9 children. Her husband and 4 children, Elva, Elza, Elsie and Vernie, preceded her in death. She and her husband and 6 children moved to Marion county, Ill, in 1906. She united with the Church of Christ near Casey, Ill., at an early age and remained faithful to the end. She was always ready to lend a helping hand. It may well be said that she went about doing good. The last four years was spent in the Wutzler nuring home, where she was loved by all. She is survived by four daughters, Mrs. Florence Greene, Granite City, Mrs. leona Douglas, Champaign, Mrs. Blanche Durall, Iuka, Mrs. Winnie Knapp, Salem, and her youngest son, Lester, Alma, two sisters, Mrs. Ida Slane, Kinmundy, Mrs. Flossie Alderson, Salem, two brothers, Roy Short, Kinmundy, Charlie Short, Salem, 14 grandchildren, 35 great-grandchildren and 4 great, great grandchildren. Her oldest grandson, Estel O'Dell, passed away last November. When we step beyond life's gateway as our loved one has done We shall find a land of beauty with a never setting sun.
