Marshall County Chicago body found - Marshall County, Illinois From the Lacon Home Journal Thursday June 3, 1920 GILROY BODY FOUND The body of J A Gilroy, the Chicago hunter and a personal friend of B F Shafer's, and who disappeared early in December while hunting on the river bottoms below town, was found Sunday in a terrible state of decomposition. The body was floating down the river opposite the Proctor farm between Chillicothe and Rome and discovered by two little boys who when they saw the object ran and gave the alarm. R G Carson and John Wagner, two men who were rowing up the stream also saw the body floating down shortly after the children ran back for help. Identification of the body was possible only through a hunting license and the clothing. The body was clad in heavy hunting clothes, boots and the pockets were filled with shot gun shells. The body is supposed to have been under the ice all winter probably caught on a snag and with the coming of spring floated down to where it was found. ------------------------------------------------------------------------- USGENWEB NOTICE: These electronic pages may NOT be reproduced in any format for profit or presentation by other organization or persons.
