He had lived to the great age of 94 years, 7 months and 21 days, and his children will hold sacred his memory. The deceased was born 21 August 1833, at Batavia, Clairmont County Ohio. When four years of age he came with his parents by boat to what was then the small village of Henry, landing at Hall’s landing, which is just above the present ball grounds, and settled at the head of the Sandy, then known as Cherry Point and now as Evans township. Being a very early settler in Marshall County, coming here in 1837 when vast prairie lands awaited the ingenuity of man to bring to productivity, his primitive history is indeed an interesting one. It was his delight to relate his many and interesting experiences of the early day when deer grazed upon the prairies and the Indian proffered hospitality in his wigwam. The deceased having had the privilege, in the long ago of partaking of a meal of corn and venison; he and the Indians eating from the same kettle with a crude wooden spoon. Mr. Brown’s first wife was Sallie Wright Caldwell, passed away 12 September 1875. They were the parents of nine children, a daughter and two sons deceased. Those who survive are Ezekial of Paxton; Adin of Linota, Iowa; Dallas of McNabb; Junius of Wenona; Alvin of Magnolia and Ira of Henry. There are also 18 grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren and 6 great great great grandchildren. Mr. Brown devoted his early life to farming but for many years has been a resident of Henry, occupying the home on Deacon Hill where he closed his eyes in death. He was a member of the Methodist church, and a dutiful attendant as long as activity permitted. A conscientious, honorable man, and exemplary neighbor and friend to all has gone to his grave. The funeral service was conducted from the Methodist Church this Thursday afternoon at 1:30 o’clock, Rev Ivins Chatten officiating. The singing was beautifully rendered by Mrs. Chatten and Mrs. Gordon Downey. Internment in Henry City Cemetery with the following acting as casket bearers: J. O. Hill, J. Allen Smith, Fred Dawson, D. R. Blackwell, M. L. Coan, and W. R. Brokaw.
