He died three hours after the accident, from the injuries sustained. The rock, or mass of roof, that caused this accident, would weigh about one ton, it was round in shape, about 6 feet in diameter, and about 10 inches thick at the center, being quite thin at the edges. It was at the road-head. Thomas was in the act of loading a car with coal when the mass fell. The rock had evidently been loosened by a blast in the brushing, fired the evening previous, and deceased had been careless in not taking it down.
