Brauer and son are putting up a large frame business house between the Post Office and the Market house. Mr. J. W. Eccles is building a new shop near his residence. Mr. Murphy is erecting a new cottage dwelling near Judge Moore's. Several new houses are being built in the upper part of town. An old citizen wishes us to ask why there have been no steps provided for the outer doors of the school house. There are no cases of small pox in town now. The literary society will so discuss the propriety sending Gen. Logan to U.S. Senate. Mr. A. Morris was arrested recently for stealing the mule of his brother James Morris. He is now in jail awaiting trial at the next term of court. The horses of Mr. Thomas Oneal [sic] have been found. Go to A. Helcher for good furniture. The turning shop of Helcher and Davis is in complete running order. The new wagon hub and spoke factory is nearly completed. Work is being prosccuted [sic] at the new mill of Brown and Maxon as rapidly as the weather will permit. Next Monday probate court will be in session. The prospect for what is improving, many fields recently thought to be killed out are now looking well. Cotton is declining in market. Gold is also going down. W. H. Green of Cairo, was in town last week. He did not see fit to call on us. His time as Judge does not expire until a year from June next. Mr. Valle and the citizens of his neighborhood have much improved the street on which they live. Those who bought lands for taxes in 1864 should advertise for deed at once. The new Bakery on front [sic] street is doing a fine business. Several changes have taken place lately among business men here. Col. G. W. Neely is now attending court at Shawneetown. Jacob Musseleman will soon remove his stock of drugs to the building now used as a Bakery by J. C. Rose & Co., he having purchased it for that purpose. Regular preaching in the M.E. church every Sabbath at 11 o'clock A.M. and 6 1/2 o'clock P.M.
