METROPOLIS PLANET - 28APR1977 - RAYMOND P. DEJARNETT FUNERAL SERVICES HELD 
SATURDAY
Funeral services were held in Carbondale Monday for Raymond P. DeJarnett, 61, 
recently retired associate director of student work & financial assistance at 
Southern Illinois University-Carbondale, who died 23Apr after a brief illness.
Mr. DeJarnett, who retired 22Feb after 17 years with SIU-C, administered 35 
different programs of student work, scholarships, loans & grants for thousands 
of SIU-C students.
SIU-C Vice-president for Student Affairs, Bruce Swinburne closed the student 
work & financial assistance office Monday morning to allow staff members to 
attend services at the First United Methodist Church.
A Metropolis native, Mr. DeJarnett was assistant superintendent for the Norris 
City-Omaha Schools before coming to ISU-C in 1960.  He also served as high 
school principal, guidance counselor & athletic coach & taught at schools in 
Waterloo & Brighton.
A member of Phi Delta Kappa, national education honorary, the National 
Association of Secondary School Principals, Masons, Rotary & the First United 
Methodist Church, Carbondale, Mr. DeJarnett also was co-author of the 
book "Money, Marbles or Chalk."
He is survived by his wife Fern of Carbondale; 2 sons, Larry of Farmington 
Hills, MI, & the Rev. Donald DeJarnett of Noble; 3 grandsons & 1 granddaughter; 
4 brothers, Arnold of Metropolis, Omer of Godfrey, Lindell of Marietta, GA, 
Alen Gene of Stone Mountain, GA; & sisters, Elva & Evelyn DeJarnett, both of 
Metropolis.
Burial was at Palestine No. 2 Cemetery, Omaha.
