Age he was born in the year of our Lord 1778 on April the 26th. Sarah Hindman formerly Manning was born on the 11th of September 1787. We two above mentioned were married on August the 28th, 1806. Mary McClelin Hindman born on November the 11th 1807 Agnes Linvil Hindman born on June the 15th 1810 Elisabeth Hindman born on October the tenth 1812 Jane Hindman born on November the 10th 1814 John Hindman born on January the 12th 1817 David Hindman born on April the 10th 1819 William Crawford Hindman born April the thirtieth 1821 Samuel Matthews Hindman born on August the thirtieth 1823 Kennedy McClure Hindman born on February the fifteenth 1826 James Bryan Hindman was born on March the 19th 1828 Additional Comments: Bible was in the possession of Ruth Cale Schub [d. 2012], great-great-grandaughter of Samuel Hindman. Published in Edinburgh in 1775. Tagged with a blue ribbon labelled "Bible Service Methodist Church, Macomb, Illinois, Jan 9, 1927. Oldest Bible" Obituaries for Sarah Manning Hindman (d. 1881) and Mary Hindman Cale (d. 1882), as transcribed in "Newspaper Abstracts from McDonough County, Illinois Volume I (1880-1882)", McDonough County Genealogical Society, Compiled by: Janet Kathleen Pease, August, 1975: Deaths/Obituaries in the Macomb JOURNAL, Thursday, June 9, 1881: "Hindman, Mrs. Sarah died today at the residence of her daughter, Mrs. Mary Cale in Macomb, 1st ward, aged 93 years 8 months 29 days. She was the oldest woman in McDonough County. Born near Baltimore, Maryland in 1787; maiden name was Manning. Her father was an officer on Geo. Washington's staff. Moved to Pennsylvania when she was 18 years old and married when she was 19 years. Moved to Ohio where she raised her family, 6 sons and 4 daughters. Her husband died 50 years ago. Mrs. Cale is her oldest daughter, and is aged 73 years. The funeral will be tomorrow." Deaths and Obituaries from the Macomb JOURNAL, Thursday, 21 December, 1882: "Cale, Mary died at her residence in Macomb on December 17th aged 75 years 1 month 5 days. She was born in Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania in 1807. Her maiden name was Hindman. She lived there until girlhood and then with her parents she moved to another part of the state. A few years later they moved to Trumbull County, Ohio where in 1830 she married Stephen Cale. In 1856 with her husband and then large family, she moved to Iowa for 3 years, then to Missouri where they lived from 1859-1862. They then moved to Macomb. Her husband died in 1875. She was the mother of 10 children, 8 of whom are now living. She was raised in the Presbyterian faith but joined the [Methodist] Church 6 years ago. The funeral was Tuesday with burial in the Bailey graveyard, 3 miles southwest of this place."
