Gardner The death of Mrs. Esther B. Gardner occurred on Friday, January 27, 1922, after a long illness. Esther Bright was born in Tully NY, and came west with her parents in the early forties, spending practically all her life in the middle west. On February 5, 1859, she was united in marriage to S.B. Gardner at Geneva Lake, Wis. After a short residence in Marengo, which has since been their home, except for a few years in Rockford and Freeport. To this union were born two sons, F. Jay and F. Day, of Chicago, both of whom survive. Mr. Gardner was for many years a passenger conductor on the C. & N. W. road, and later on was station agent in this city. Advancing years caused his retirement from active duties and he passed away June 13, 1905. Funeral services for Mrs. Gardner were held at the home on Sunday afternoon, conducted by Rev. W.I. Blair, pastor of the Presbyterian church, of which she was a member. The house was filled to overflowing with sympathizing friends. The singers were Mrs. A.S. Norton and Mrs. B.O. Mead. Interment was in the Marengo Cemetery and the body bearers were N.V. Woleben, C.B. Whittemore, A.S. Norton, George Perkins, G.W. Redpath and C.A. Dunham. He was born in New York state in 1869 and was 52 years (the rest of the article was cut off) C.H. Hance, Sr. selling residence on East Grant Highway, a few blocks from town.
