(Pittsburgh, Pa.) 1860-1898: July 29, 1863 Killed at Raymond, Miss., May 12th, 1863, by a Minnie ball passing through his head, George W., eldest son of V. and S. D. Cloud, in the 29th year of his age; private in Co. K, 8th Reg’t. Illinois Volunteers. At the call of his country, in the fall of 1862, he left family and friends to do battle for liberty. He fought at Port Gibson, and fell at Raymond. He leaves a wife and two children, and a large circle of friends, to mourn their loss. An infant daughter died soon after leaving for service.
