September 26, 1865. She died at her home near Cropsey on Sunday morning December 24, 1916, at the age of 51 years, 2 months, and 23 days. Her parents moved to Pontiac when she was a child. It was there that she grew to womanhood. On October 5, 1882 she was united in marriage to John Sterling Putnam of Cropsey. They devoted themselves to the work on the farm and have lived near Cropsey for the last 20 years. Their industry and diligence brought its reward and a fair measure of success crowned their efforts. To this union three children were born, Mrs. Mary Etta [Emery] Eyre of Saybrook, Mrs. Emma Louise [William] Hopper of Graymont, and Mrs. Ollie Caroline Bowman of Cropsey. Her parents have both preceded her in death but there are living three sisters and four brothers; Mrs. Fred Legner, Pontiac; Mrs. C. C. Stevens, Butte, Montana; Mrs. Lydia Legner, Brady, Montana; Henry Schilling of Emington; Ed of Odell; Alva of Seattle, Washington; and Albert, now in Minnesota. On March 29, 1899, during the pastorate of the Reverend M L Miller, Mrs. Putnam united with the Methodist Church at Cropsey. This was a season of rejoicing when many in this community realized the joy of salvation. Mrs. Putnam was industrious and known as a good neighbor and to the extent of her strength, preferred to have a part in the work of the day. She underwent 2 serious operations, one in 1900 and another about 7 years ago. Her last illness was brief. She was sick only a week and on last Sunday morning at 9:30, death came. The bereaved husband, daughters, brothers and sisters, and 10 grandchildren have the sympathy of the entire community in this hour of sorrow.
