Pursuant to public notice a large and respectable meeting of the citizens in the North West part of Sangamon County, convened at Wm. Denton's on the 9th day of June, 1838: In motion Mr. Robert White was called to the chair and William Stotts appointed Secretary. The object of the meeting was then explained by Josiah B. Smith, Esq. - when on motion Mssrs. John Wright, J. B. Smith, Wm. Engle, Fielden Bailard and A. A. Rankin were appointed a committee to report a boundary for a new county to be taken from the north west part of Sangamon county, after a few minutes retirement, the report the following bounds which were unanimously adapted, viz - Beginning at the northeast corner of section 3 township 20 north range 4 west of the 3d principal meridian; thence south 18 miles to the south east corner of section31, township 18 north range4 west of the 3d principal meridian, thence west with line dividing townships 17 and 18 to the south west corner of section 36 township 18 north, range 5 west of the 3rd principal meridian, thence a direct line to the northwest corner of section 13 in township 17 North Range 6 west of the third principal meridian thence a direct line running west through the middle of township 17 to the line dividing Sangamon and Cass Counties thence North along said line to the Sangamon river, thence down the channel of mid river to the extreme of Sangamo county, thence to the Illinois river to the line dividing Sangamon and Tazewell counties, thence east with said line to the place of beginning. After which the following resolution were adopted - 1st Resolved, That J. B. Smith, William Stotts, and John Wright be appointed to committee to draft a petition, also an address to the citizens of Sangamon county, also to meet in Springfield on the 4th day of July, as determined to confer with other delegates from different parts of the county. 2nd Resolved, That is proceedings of this meeting be signed by the chairman and secretary and that the editors of the Sangamo Journal and Illinois Republican be requested to publish the same their respective papers together with the address.
