Mr. Bale, or “Doug” as he is familiarly accosted by his friends, was born and raised in Petersburg and had, probably, as extensive acquaintance with the people of the county as any man in it: having been engaged in the woolen factory business here ever since old enough. First as a hand in the factory of his father Hardin Bale, deceased, and Mr. Hill. Then as junior partner of the firm of Bale & Son for many years until death of his father which was 2 years ago. Since then until the destruction of the factory by fire on the 17th of June 17 last, he has been senior partner of the firm of D. Bale & Co. Mr. Bale’s long experience in the business, renders him one of the best posted and thoroughly competent woolen mill operators in the country, and we had hoped to see the factory here rebuilt and him once again at its head. We are sorry to have Doug leave Petersburg, and this feeling is shared by a large number of our citizens, as he was deservedly popular among all classes, and most among those who knew him most intimately.
