Sangamo Journal  September 4, 1845
We understand that Mr. Eliphalet Pearce, of Menard county, aged about 60 years, 
died on Thursday last, from the effects of a blow on the head, inflicted with a 
clapboard by a lad named Parker, who gave himself up to the proper officers and 
was admitted to bail.
