The party consisted of an old man named Minty, Mrs. Mary Haydes and two children, Mrs. Elizabeth Hodson and two children, and Mrs. Burgo and two children. Minty saved himself and one of Mrs. Hodson's children by swimming. Mrs. Hodson remained in the sleigh holding her other child an hour and a half on the side-board until assistance came. Both were taken out alive, but the mother died shortly afterwards.
