He died from the injuries sustained, eleven days after the accident. Deceased was employed on the night shift; part of his duty was to send hay down the shaft, with which to feed the mules in the mine. He was pushing a car load of hay onto the cage at the lower landing, but by some mistake, pushed the car into the shaft where there was no cage to receive it. As a matter of course, he followed it into and down the shaft, falling on top of the trussed hay at the bottom of the shaft; this broke the fall somewhat, and prevented his being killed instantly.
